The AP is reporting that the military forces loyal to Alassane Ouattara are occupying a number of major cities, including the major Western port of San Pedro while gearing up for a possible assault attack on the commercial city of Abidjan. The amount of fighting has been low, the article reads, as Gbagbo has lost his military leader,
Gen. Phillippe Mangou, and the soldiers of each city are being encouraged to join the assault on Gbagbo's position. Gbagbo has hired mercenaries from Liberia and local militias to defend his position.
Thankfully, this looks like a possible quiet coup. The forces loyal to Gbagbo would have to be suicidal to forcibly prevent the arrest and capture of Laurent Gbagbo. There needs to be less warfare around the world. The idea that we must change people's will by force is terrifying enough.
The move into Abidjan should be happening in the next 24 hours, so stay tuned!
