FDA Extends Comment Period

We have two more months!! Of what, you ask?

Alright, the press is finally getting a hold of this important story and I think it's an opportune time to examine this measure more closely.

The actual change of this measure will not affect those who love artisan chocolate. This measure will effect those who eat Snickers, M&M's, and Hershey's. And to that extent, maybe not much. These candy bars contain so little cocoa butter that the taste of the bars without them will not be much different.

Cacao prices are rising in the Ivory Coast (due to droughts and wars), Latin America (due to Frosty Pod and Witches' Broom) and South East Asia (due to extreme weather and seismic activity). The price of cacao will continue to rise for a number of years as these conditions worsen and as demand increases.

Eliminating the most expensive part of chocolate (cocoa butter), will enable these large manufacturers to lower the cost of their overhead while charging consumers more by citing higher cacao prices. This is a blatant and outright lie to the American people and must be made aware of.

So be vocal! When chocolate is discussed, which can be daily in some households, speak of the FDA and the GMA and the things that are important to you when you by the food you eat.

These companies, if denied by the FDA, may find other ways to impose these changes, so we must speak up now, before it's too late!

Fight the good fight!
